Patkai Green Farmer Producer Company Limited is located over in the Tinsukia district. We’re based in Borbilramnagar, specifically the 3 No area near Digboi and Margherita. Rubi Gogoi’s place is where we handle the business side of things. Out here, the landscape is beautiful, but farming can be a real grind. We’ve got a lot of hills and a lot of rain to deal with. Most of us in the group have been working these fields for decades. We started the company because we were tired of being at the mercy of middle-men who didn't understand the work we put in. Now, we try to handle more of it ourselves. We talk about seeds, we talk about the weather, and we talk about how to get our crops where they need to go without them rotting on the way. It’s a lot of logistics for people who’d rather just be out in the dirt. We aren't experts at office work, but we’re getting better at it as the seasons pass. You’ll usually find someone at the office during the day, though we’re often out at the different farms seeing how the tea or the vegetables are coming along. It’s a community effort, really. We just want to keep our farms going and make sure the families around here can stay on their land for a long time to come. It’s not fancy, but it is our life.
