Muktabari Tea Estate is located in Sonari, specifically in the Bora Nagar area of Shivsagar district. It’s a bit of a drive to get out here, but it’s where we do all our work. We deal with tea right from the ground up. The estate has its own rhythm, mostly tied to the seasons. When the plucking season starts, everyone is busy from dawn until dusk. It’s a lot of physical labor. We don’t spend much time sitting in air-conditioned rooms. Our office is just a small building with a tin roof that gets really loud when it rains. We have some old machinery that we keep running with a bit of luck and a lot of maintenance. People in the district know us because we’ve been part of the local economy for a long time. We hire folks from the surrounding villages to help with the harvest. It’s a community effort really. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We grow tea, we dry it, and we send it off. Sometimes the crop is good, sometimes it’s not so great. That’s just farming. We take it one day at a time and try to stay on top of the weeds. It’s a humble operation, and we like it that way. We spend our evenings watching the sun set over the fields before heading home.
