Kathirvel Rice Mill

Kathirvel Rice Mill is over at House No.312 in Ashapurna Valley. We are right off the Jhalamand Bye Pass Road. It’s a busy road, so there is always the sound of trucks and cars passing by while we work. Running a rice mill is a lot of dusty, physical work. We spend our time checking the machines and making sure the grains are being processed right. It’s not a big factory like you see on TV. It’s a smaller operation run out of the valley area. The house is where we manage everything. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to spend the whole afternoon fixing them with grease all over our hands. That’s just part of the job. We don’t have a fancy office or a secretary to answer the phone. If you call, you’ll probably hear the mill running in the background. People from the nearby farms and the valley come to us because we are close and we’ve been here for a while. We don’t really do any big marketing. We just focus on getting the bags filled and stacked. It gets very hot in the summer, but we keep going. The floor is usually covered in husks no matter how much we sweep. It’s a real, working place and we are just regular people doing our daily tasks. Stop by if you’re on the bypass and need rice. We are usually around.
