Brd Stone Art is tucked away in the Sursagar area, right near Bavarli Bhomia Ji Ka Than. If you know the spot, you know it’s a place where stone is just part of life. We work with our hands mostly. There is a lot of dust involved in stone art, and our clothes usually show it by the end of the day. It’s not the kind of work you can do if you want to stay clean. We take big pieces of rock and turn them into something else. It takes time and a lot of patience. Sometimes a piece breaks right at the end, and you have to start all over again. That’s just the way stone works. We’ve been at this location for years. The noise of the tools is something the neighbors are probably used to by now. It is a specific kind of skill, passed down or learned over many hours of practice. We don't have a glossy showroom. We have a yard and a workshop where the real work happens. People come by when they want something made of stone that will last a long time. It’s heavy work, and our backs often ache, but there is something good about seeing a finished piece ready to go. Sursagar is famous for this kind of thing, so we fit right in. We just keep our heads down and keep carving. It’s what we know how to do best in this shop, day after day.
