Our place is at E-13 in the Basni Phase II industrial area. It’s a textile unit, so we have rolls of fabric piled up everywhere you look. The noise from the machines can get pretty loud during the day shift. We mostly handle cotton blends and some synthetic stuff too. My family has been in the cloth business for two generations now. My grandfather had a small shop in the city, but we moved out here to the industrial area to have more space for the looms. It’s a plain building, nothing much to look at from the outside. Inside, it smells like starch and thread. We have a crew of about fifteen people working the machines. Some of them have been with us for over twenty years. They know the machines better than I do. We spend a lot of time checking for flaws in the weave. If the tension is off, the whole roll can be ruined. We pack everything into bundles for the wholesalers. Sometimes the loading dock gets blocked by other trucks on the street, which is annoying. The office is just a corner walled off with some plywood. We have a tea break at four every afternoon. That’s usually when we talk about the day’s work and what needs to go out tomorrow. We don't have any fancy displays or anything like that here. It's just a working factory where we try to get the orders done on time without too much trouble for our neighbors.
