You can find us at Amit Battery on 11th Pal Road in Sardarpura. It’s a pretty busy stretch of road, so there’s always the sound of horns and engines in the background. Our shop is mostly filled with heavy black batteries stacked up on top of each other. They’re heavy, and we spend a good part of our day moving them around. We usually have grease under our fingernails from checking under hoods or cleaning off old terminals. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s steady. We have a small bench out front where customers can sit while we test their old battery to see if it’s actually dead or just needs a charge. We don't try to talk anyone into buying something they don't need. If it can be fixed, we tell them. If it’s done for, we show them why. The shop stays open late because people usually realize their battery is dead when they’re trying to go home after work. We’ve got a couple of fans that don't do much against the heat, but we stay hydrated. It’s just us and the tools and the smell of lead and acid. We don’t have a fancy waiting room with coffee. It’s just a garage-style setup where we get the job done and send people on their way so we can get to the next one. Most days we are just glad to get the grease off our hands.
