Achaldas Meghraj & Company

Being at Mandore Road Krishi Mandi T-1 is different from a normal street shop. Achaldas Meghraj & Company is right in the middle of the wholesale action. The day starts way before the sun comes up. You can hear the sounds of crates moving and people shouting across the yard. Our space at T-1 is filled with sacks and ledgers. There is always a layer of fine dust from the grain and the trucks. We sit at the old wooden desks and handle the paperwork. It is not a place for sitting around and relaxing. People come in with muddy boots and talk about the market prices. We have been at this address for a long time. The walls are covered in old calendars and notes written in pen. We drink tea in small glasses while talking to the farmers and the drivers. It is a rough environment but it is honest work. The ceiling fan is old and loud, but we need it when the heat gets bad in the afternoon. We do not have any flashy displays or nice furniture. Everything here is for use, not for looking at. By the time the mandi starts to quiet down, we are finishing up the books for the day. It is a long day on Mandore Road but that is just how it is for us.
