Jai Durga Jewellers is right in the middle of the Main Bazar. If you have ever walked through the market on a Saturday, you know how crowded it gets. We have been in this spot for quite a while now. The shop is not very large, but we have enough space for the glass counters and a few stools for people to sit down. Every morning we open the heavy shutters and start setting out the gold and silver pieces. It is a lot of work to put everything back in the safe every night and bring it out again the next day, but that is just the routine. People from the nearby villages and the local streets come in mostly for small things, like fixing a broken chain or getting a pair of earrings. We see a lot of the same faces over the years. The chai wallah comes by twice a day, and that is usually when we take a small break. It gets hot in the summer because the bazar does not get much breeze, but we have a small fan that keeps things moving. We don't do big flashy ads or anything. Most people just know we are here because their parents or grandparents came here before them. We just focus on the scales and making sure the polish is right. It is a quiet life inside the shop even though the bazar outside is always shouting and moving.
