We are out here in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, working for Parle Biscuits Pvt.Ltd. If you know anything about this part of India, you know it gets incredibly hot. Working in a biscuit factory when it is forty degrees outside is no joke. The ovens are always running, so the heat inside is even worse. You get used to the smell of baking dough after a while, though. It kind of sticks to your clothes. We have a lot of people from the local villages coming in for their shifts. It is a major operation and there is always a truck being loaded or unloaded at the gates. The dust in Rajasthan is constant, so we are always cleaning. We just focus on getting the packets filled and boxed up. There isn’t much around us here, just open land and the highway. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to wait for parts to come in, which can take forever. It’s a steady job for a lot of families in the area. We don't really do anything fancy, just follow the schedule and make sure the biscuits are packed right. The days can feel long, especially in the summer, but we have a good group of people here. Everyone just wants to do their work and head home. It is simple, honest work in a tough climate, but we make it work somehow and keep the line moving.
