Mahesh Kirana Store

Mahesh Kirana Store is right on Gopinath Mandir Road, smack in the middle of the Main Market. Mukundgarh Mandi is always buzzing with activity, especially during the harvest seasons. We are very close to the Gopinath Mandir, so we can hear the morning and evening prayers clearly from the shop. It’s a traditional kirana store, which means we have bags of grains and pulses stacked up almost to the ceiling. It’s often a bit cramped inside because we try to fit in as much stock as possible. The floor is usually covered in a bit of flour or grain dust, no matter how much we sweep. Customers come in with their lists, and we spend the day weighing out portions and tying up packets. It’s a lot of standing and moving around in a small space. The market can get really loud with the tractors and the shouting of the traders, but we are used to it by now. We’ve known most of our customers for years, and we know exactly what they usually want. It’s not a fancy supermarket with barcodes and scanners; it’s more about knowing your inventory by heart. We open early and stay open until the market starts to quiet down at night. It’s a busy life, but it’s what we know. Mukundgarh Mandi is a tough place to work sometimes because of the heat, but being near the temple gives the place a good feel.
