Ek-Pahal Dosti Foundation

Our foundation is based in Jhunjhunu, specifically in the area called Bhurasar Ka Bas. We are operating out of Jatan Singh’s place, he’s the son of Hira Lal. Most people in this part of town have known the family for years, so it felt like the right place to start. The name "Dosti" means friendship, and that is really how we run things. It’s just a group of friends who decided we should do more than just talk about problems. We don't have an office with glass walls or computers for everyone. We mostly use our phones and meet up in the courtyard to figure out our next move. The neighborhood is pretty quiet, though the dogs bark a lot at night. We spend our days visiting different families and seeing how they are faring. Some of us have regular jobs, so we do this work in the evenings and on the weekends. It’s a bit of a scramble sometimes to keep everything organized, but we manage. We don’t have a big board with charts or goals. We just want to be there for our friends and neighbors when things get tough. If you are ever in Jhunjhunu, you can find us easily by asking for Jatan Singh’s house. We usually have the kettle on for some tea. It’s a modest setup, but we prefer it that way because it keeps us close to the ground and the people we know.
