Laxmikant Sureshchand Stone Company is based in the Chandrawati Growth Centre over in Jhalawar district. We have been cutting and moving stone here for quite some time now. The growth centre is a busy place, but we have our own corner where we keep the blocks and the saws. It’s a lot of manual labor and keeping an eye on the quality of the rock coming out of the ground. Jhalawar is known for its stone, and we are just one part of that big industry. Our days are filled with the sound of grinding and the smell of wet stone. We have a group of guys who have been doing this for years; they can tell a good slab just by looking at it. We don't have a fancy showroom. Most people just come straight to the yard to see what we have in stock. The office is small and usually smells like tea and old paper. We try to keep the orders moving, but sometimes rain slows things down in the quarry. Dealing with natural stone means you are always at the mercy of the weather. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to get through the day’s work and make sure the trucks are loaded right. It’s a steady life, and we like it that way. Every piece of stone we send out is something we handled ourselves.
