National Tyre Service

If you know where the main bus stand in Jhalrapatan is, then you’ve probably seen our shop, National Tyre Service. We are right across from it, so there is always a lot of noise and dust from the buses pulling in and out. Being in the Jhalawar district, it gets quite dusty during the summer, and we spend a good amount of time just sweeping the front of the shop. We mostly deal with tyres for all sorts of vehicles. Some days it’s just small scooters, and other days it’s big trucks that take up all the space out front. We have a few machines to help with the heavy lifting and balancing, but a lot of it is still just hard work with your hands. It’s usually pretty greasy around here, and our clothes definitely show it by the end of the day. We don’t have a fancy waiting room or anything like that. People usually just stand around and talk while we work on their wheels. Sometimes we have a backlog of old tyres in the back that we need to clear out. It’s a simple life, opening up early in the morning and staying until the last customer is sorted. We get a lot of travelers passing through because of the bus stand nearby. It’s just a local shop where we try to fix things and get people back on the road without too much fuss. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we take a break for tea then.
