Nilkanth Cotton Print

Our place, Nilkanth Cotton Print, is located on Khirasra Road in Jetpur. We are right near the Galoria Bridge, which is a busy little spot. In Jetpur, cotton printing is what most of us know, and we’ve been doing it for quite some time now. It is a very manual process. We spend our days handling large bolts of fabric and dealing with all sorts of dyes. The workshop usually smells like wet cloth and coloring agents. It’s not a polished environment; the walls have splashes of color on them and the floors stay wet from the washing. We really depend on the weather here. When it’s sunny, we can dry the fabric outside, but during the monsoon, everything gets much harder and slower. We aren’t a big factory with robots. It’s just people using their hands and simple machines to get the prints onto the cotton. The road outside, Khirasra Road, can get pretty muddy when it rains, and the bridge always has people crossing over. We just keep to our routine of mixing colors and laying out fabric. It’s a lot of repetitive movement, but there is a certain rhythm to it. We don’t have a fancy showroom or anything. People just know we are here by the bridge. It’s a steady way of life for us, just working with cotton day after day in the heat of Jetpur. We stay busy with the local orders.
