Our place is Aarabi Layer Farming Private Limited and you can find us in Vill-Sikaria, which is part of the Sikariya Panchayat in Jehanabad. Prabhabati Devi is the one in charge of the land here. We are right in the middle of the village area which makes it feel very local and traditional. We focus on layer farming because that’s what we know best. It’s a quiet life out here in Tola-Sikaria compared to the big cities. Most of our days are spent checking on the hens and collecting the eggs by hand. We don't have much in the way of fancy tech, just the sheds and the birds and our own two hands. The weather in Jehanabad can be pretty hot in the summer so we have to work extra hard to keep the birds cool. It’s a lot of water carrying and fixing fans when they break down. People around here know us and sometimes they stop by for a chat while we are working. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. We just write down what we sell in a notebook and try to keep the place running smooth. It’s hard work and it gets messy, but it’s our life and we’ve put a lot of ourselves into the work here in the village. It’s just simple farming the way it’s been done for years and years now without many changes. We just keep going.
