Yellaiah Cereal Cultivation

This is Yellaiah Cereal Cultivation. We work the land over in Harijanawada, Jangam. Our house is at 5-27. It’s mostly just me and the family working the fields. We grow different cereals depending on what the season is. Sometimes it’s rice, other times it’s something else. It’s a lot of physical labor. You’re out in the sun all day. We don't have big tractors or anything fancy. We do a lot of it the old way. The soil here in Jangam is good if you take care of it. We spend our days weeding and checking the water. It’s a quiet life. Not much happens in Harijanawada. We don't sell to big shops. Usually, we take the grain to the local market. Or sometimes people come directly to the house to buy a bag or two. We store the harvest in the back room. You can smell the dry grain when you walk in. It’s a dusty smell but I like it. We’ve been farming this plot for a long time. My grandfather was doing the same thing. We don't know much else besides the land. It’s not a big company. It’s just us and our crops. Some years the rain is good, some years it isn't. We just take what comes. That’s how farming goes. We just keep our heads down and wait for the harvest to come in.
