About Surya Rice Cultivation – Food & Beverages in Janagam
At Surya Rice Cultivation, we spend most of our time in the fields around Kadapagandi Tanda. Our main spot is at number 109 here in the Jangam area. Rice is a thirsty crop, so we are always checking the water levels and making sure the paddies are flooded just right. It’s messy work, always being in the mud and the water, especially when the monsoon hits. My clothes are rarely clean by the end of the day. We follow the seasons closely because if you miss the right time to plant, the whole year is ruined. The land around Kadapagandi Tanda is good for rice if you put in the effort. We don’t use anything too fancy, just the methods we’ve used for years. It’s a lot of standing in the sun and manual labor during the harvest. We carry the sacks of grain ourselves and load them up to be taken away. Jangam can get very dry sometimes, which makes us worry about the crop, but we manage somehow. It’s just me and a few others working the ground. We don't have a big office or a website, just our fields and our hands. If you come by our place at 109, you’ll likely see us out back working on something related to the rice. It’s a slow process but it’s our life and we just take it one season at a time.
