Naresh Pulses is over at H. No-5-148 in the Harijanawada area of Jangam. It’s a place where we deal with all kinds of dals and grains. You can usually hear the sound of the bags being dragged across the floor from the street. We have a few machines for cleaning and sorting, but a lot of it is just manual labor. We spend hours checking the quality and making sure there aren’t too many stones in the pulses. The air in the shop is always a bit heavy with the smell of raw lentils. It’s a busy neighborhood and there’s always something going on outside our door. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us working through the piles of stock. We try to keep the records straight in our books, but sometimes things get a bit disorganized when a big shipment arrives. People from around Jangam come by to get what they need. We don’t have a fancy sign or anything, just the house number 5-148. The floor is concrete and it’s always covered in a bit of grain dust. We just keep at it every day, from Monday to Saturday. It’s steady work and it keeps us grounded here in Harijanawada. It’s not a polished business, just a local spot for pulses. We handle everything ourselves, from unloading the carts to bagging the stuff up. We try to keep the shop open as much as we can during the day and even early evening.
