Sona Bricks

Sona Bricks is tucked away in Village Babla Danga, which is part of the Jamuria taluka in Burdwan district. We get our mail at the Sripur Bazar post office. Our brick field is right in the heart of the village area. It’s a rural spot where things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We work with the local soil to produce the bricks that build the homes around here. It is honest, physical work that keeps us busy from dawn until dusk. The village of Babla Danga is where we spend most of our lives. We know the people and we know the land. We don't have any fancy equipment or big corporate offices. Our office is a small shed where we keep our records and a few tools. When you come to visit, you'll likely see rows and rows of bricks laid out to bake in the sun. It’s a sight we never get tired of. We have a small group of workers who have been with us for a long time. We treat each other like family because that’s how it is in a small village. If the weather is good, we produce a lot. If it’s rainy, we sit and wait. We don't try to overcomplicate things. We just make bricks and sell them to people who need them. It’s been that way for years and we don’t see any reason to change it now. We just stay here in Burdwan doing our bit for the community.
