Ramesh Kulfi

You will find us up on the first floor of House Number 39 in Sakchi Bazar. It's a bit of a climb up the stairs, but people find us easily because we are right in front of the Basant Cinema Hall. Being in Sakchi means it is always crowded. There are shoppers and people coming out of the movies all the time. Our shop is quite small, mostly just the freezers and a little space for people to stand and eat their kulfi. We don't have chairs or tables because there just isn't enough room. Most people just take their kulfi and walk around the market. We've been making kulfi the same way for a long time now. We don't use any modern machines, just the old methods we learned years ago. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to worry about the freezers, but we have a backup generator. It’s a simple life. We spend the morning preparing the milk and the evening serving the customers. You can hear the noise from the cinema and the market all day long. Some days are better than others, especially in the summer when it’s hot and everyone wants something cold. We don't have a big sign, just enough so people know what we sell. It’s just a small family business in the heart of Jamshedpur. We like it that way. No need for anything too fancy or expensive.
