Shankar Tekri is a busy place, and our shop at Plot No. 454/1 is right in the middle of it. We spend most of our time dealing with brass, which is what Jamnagar is known for anyway. The machines here are old but they still run fine if you treat them right. You can hear the clinking of metal all day long. It gets pretty hot in the summer, especially with the furnaces going, but we just keep the fans on and keep moving. We make all sorts of small brass parts that go into bigger things elsewhere. It’s dusty work, and there’s always metal shavings on the floor that need sweeping. Most of us here have been doing this since we were young. We don’t have any big meetings or fancy office space. It’s just the workshop and a small desk for the books. Sometimes we have a bit of a backlog when the power goes out or a machine needs a part, but we usually catch up. People around here know us as the place that’s always got something being hammered or turned. We don’t go in for big talk. If someone needs brass components, they come by, we tell them if we can do it, and then we get to work. It’s a steady life, even if it’s a bit loud and messy most of the time.
