Ghanshyam Brass Moulding Works

Shankar Tekri is a place where you can hear the hammers and the machines from blocks away. Our shop, Ghanshyam Brass Moulding Works, is at Plot No. 445-2 in Phase-1. It’s a hot place because of the furnaces. We melt down brass and pour it into molds. The air always has that metallic smell to it. It’s a tradition for us, really. My father did this, and now I’m here doing the same thing. We don’t have any automated robots or anything. It’s all hand work and skill. You can see the glow of the molten metal when it’s ready to pour. It’s dangerous if you aren't paying attention, so we stay focused. The floor is uneven and covered in sand from the molds. We have a small tea stall just outside our gate where we go when we need a breather. Most of our neighbors do similar work, so we all know what it’s like. We aren't a big corporation with fancy titles. We are just workers. When an order comes in for a specific part, we carve out the mold and get to work. It takes time and effort. Sometimes things don't turn out right, and we have to melt it down and start over. That is just part of the process. We take it as it comes.
