Sutaria Sons The Bandhej Shoppe

We are right across from the Jayshree Cinema at C-29 in the New Super Market. It’s a busy corner, especially when a big movie is playing and the crowds spill out onto the street. Sutaria Sons The Bandhej Shoppe has been a part of this mess for a while now. My father and my brothers are usually here, moving boxes or showing different dupattas to anyone who stops by. The shop is narrow, so we have to be careful not to trip over each other. We have stacks of bandhej that come from the artisans who do the hard work of tying those tiny little knots. Sometimes we just sit and look at the patterns ourselves because they’re quite something. The noise from the cinema and the traffic outside is constant, but we’ve gotten used to it. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that, just our names on the board outside. People know where to find us when they need something for a wedding or a festival. We spend a lot of time dusting the shelves because the market gets so dusty with all the construction going on nearby. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy rolls of cloth and making sure the colors haven't bled. We just keep the doors open and see who comes in, trying to stay busy from morning until we close up at night and head home.
