Shree Digvijay Cement Company

We've been here in Digvijaygram for a good while now. My desk is in Room G13 of the Officers Hostel. It’s not a fancy office, just a practical space where we handle the paperwork for the cement plant. Sikka is a busy place because of the industrial stuff going on, and we are right in the middle of it. Most days start early with the sound of trucks moving and people heading to the works. I usually have tea first thing while looking over the lists for the day. Living and working in the same area means you never really leave the job behind, but that’s just how it is here. The hostel can be a bit noisy when everyone is coming and going, yet it feels like home because we all know each other. Sometimes the power goes out or the water is a bit slow, but we manage. We aren’t trying to impress anyone with big glass buildings. It’s about getting the cement out and making sure the orders are right. The heat in Jamnagar gets pretty intense during the summer months, so the fan in G13 is always running. People drop by without calling first, which is fine, we just pull up a chair. It’s a simple life here in the township, focused on the heavy work that needs doing. There is always dust from the plant, but you get used to it after a week or two of being here.
