Mamta Industries

Our place, Mamta Industries, is tucked inside the Oswal Ice Factory compound. It’s on Ranjit Sagar Road in Jamnagar. Having the ice factory right there is a good landmark for people trying to find us. The compound is always a bit wet and there’s the sound of machinery hum coming from next door. We do our work in a smaller unit. It’s mostly metalwork and stuff like that. Jamnagar is a busy town, and this road gets a lot of tractors and trucks moving through. Inside, we have our tools and benches set up. It’s not very tidy, but we know where the wrenches and the spare parts are kept. We usually have the radio playing to drown out some of the noise from the street. My father started this and now I’m the one looking after the daily stuff. We drink a lot of tea to stay going throughout the day. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside in the shade of the compound wall for a bit. It’s a practical way to live. We don't have a big sign out front, just the one on our door inside the compound. People who need us usually know where to go. We just try to finish the parts on time and keep the machines greased up so they don't break down in the heat. It’s dusty and noisy, but it is our livelihood. We take things one day at a time and try to do right by our customers.
