If you go opposite the Ashapura Hotel on Street No. 1, you’ll find us at Plot No. 38- B Patel Estate. It’s a busy little spot. We can see the people going in and out of the hotel for lunch while we’re working. The workshop is a bit cramped because we have a lot of equipment squeezed in. We started out with just a couple of machines and now there’s barely room to walk between them. There’s always a bit of grease on the door handle. We keep the main shutter half-open to let some breeze in, otherwise it gets too stuffy. The guys from the other units often stop by to borrow a tool or just to chat for a minute. We have a calendar on the wall from three years ago that nobody bothered to take down. Some days we are swamped and others we are just cleaning up the scraps from the floor. The street outside is narrow, so when a truck comes to deliver raw materials, everyone has to move their motorbikes. It’s a bit of a mess but we’re used to it. We keep our paperwork in a filing cabinet that sticks every time you try to open the bottom drawer. It’s not a showroom, just a place where we get the work done and try to stay on top of the orders coming in. We eat our lunch on the workbench most days and watch the traffic go by.
