Our place is at C-2/305 in the GIDC Estate, right in the middle of Udyog Nagar. Jamnagar is known for brass work, so there are shops like ours everywhere you look. We’ve been using Post Box No. 724 for as long as I can remember. The workshop is usually filled with the sound of lathes turning and the smell of hot metal. It’s a very specific smell that you never really get out of your clothes. We make all sorts of small brass bits, and they end up in big sacks waiting to be shipped out. The floor is always covered in those tiny yellow shavings that get stuck in your shoes. We have a small mezzanine level where we keep some of the older files and spare parts that we don't use every day. It’s a bit cramped in there, especially when we get a large shipment of raw brass rods delivered. Our workdays are pretty repetitive, but we like the routine. We usually take a long break in the middle of the day when the heat is at its worst. There is an old calendar on the wall that hasn't been changed in months, and a radio that mostly plays local news. We don't have a website or anything like that, we just rely on people knowing our name and where to find us in the estate. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out.
