Devpriya The Indian Performing Arts

Our place is on the fourth floor of Madhav Square over in Limda Lane. It’s a bit of a climb if you don't use the lift, but the space we have is good for what we do. At Devpriya, the rooms are usually filled with the sounds of music or people practicing their steps. It’s a performing arts space, so it’s not your typical quiet office. We have mats on the floor and some instruments leaning against the walls. There is always someone coming in for a session or just to talk about a performance. We spend a lot of time organizing schedules and making sure the teachers are ready. Sometimes the hall gets a bit hot when there are too many people, so we have to keep the fans going at full speed. We aren't a huge academy with a lot of funding. We are just a local group that cares about the arts. It’s a bit messy sometimes with costumes or scripts lying around, but that’s just the nature of the work. We enjoy the energy of the students and the noise of the rehearsals. It’s a different kind of job than working in a bank or a shop. We stay late most evenings because that’s when most people have time to come by. It’s a busy, creative life on the fourth floor and we are used to the noise by now.
