Sharad Brass Industries is located in the middle of Jamnagar, specifically in Bhagvansang Bapuni Sheri near Kharva Chaklo. If you know these lanes, you know they are tight and full of life. This part of Jamnagar is famous for brass, and we are right in the thick of it every single day. The sound of metal hitting metal is something you hear from every corner of the street. Our workspace is small and usually quite hot because of the kind of work we do. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a big reception desk to greet people. It’s just us, the tools, and the raw metal waiting to be worked on. The air smells like oil and heat most of the time. We’ve been in this sheri for a long time, and the neighbors are all doing similar work. We talk to each other over the walls and share news about what’s happening in the local market. Working in Kharva Chaklo means you have to deal with narrow paths and lots of people moving about. We spend our days making sure each piece is handled right. It’s repetitive work, but it needs a steady hand and some patience. Sometimes we have to wait for materials to arrive through the crowded streets, which can take quite a while. We drink a lot of tea to stay going through the afternoon heat. By the time we wrap things up, our hands are usually black from the work.
