Jamnagar is known for this kind of work, and we are right in the middle of it at 9 Haribhai's Wadi. Our spot is at 49 Dig. Plot Road, specifically in the Shankar Tekari GIDC area. You can hear the machines from Nirmala Brass Industries before you even walk through the gate. It is a noisy place, full of the sound of metal hitting metal and the hum of the lathes. Everything here is covered in a thin layer of metal dust, and the smell of industrial oil is always in the air. We have been in this GIDC section for a long time. The building itself is sturdy but shows its age with some cracks in the floor and stained walls. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because that's not what we are here for. We focus on the brass parts we make. Usually, there are about five or six of us working on different machines at any given time. We take our lunch breaks together sitting on some wooden crates in the shade. It’s hard work, especially when the sun is beating down on the roof, but it’s what we know how to do. The road outside is always busy with trucks hauling scrap or finished goods. We just keep our heads down, watch our measurements, and make sure the machines are running right. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day for all of us.
