About Wood Grip Fasteners – Metals & Minerals in Jamnagar
Wood Grip Fasteners takes up Plot No. 251 and 252 over in Phase-2 of the Gidc. It is a noisy place because making metal fasteners involves a lot of banging and clicking. We have rows of machines that take wire and turn it into screws and bolts all day long. The floor is hard concrete and your feet definitely feel it by the end of a shift. We have heaps of metal shavings that we have to shovel out regularly. It’s a bit oily too, which is just part of the job. Most of the people working here live in the nearby colonies and walk or bike in. We have a routine where we check the dimensions of the fasteners every few hours to make sure the machines haven't slipped. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it keeps the lights on. We don't have a big corporate lobby; you just walk in through the side door and you're right there in the middle of it. The rain sometimes leaks through the roof in the corner during monsoon season, and we just put a bucket under it and keep going. We talk about the local cricket scores during our breaks while we sit on the stacks of raw material. It is just a regular factory doing its thing every day. We pack the fasteners into small boxes and stack them onto pallets until the transport arrives to take them away.
