Our day starts early, usually before the sun gets too hot, though the furnaces make sure it’s warm inside regardless. We deal with alloys, which involves a lot of heavy lifting and keeping a close eye on the temperatures. It’s a grit-and-grind kind of business. We don’t have any fancy posters on the walls or corporate mottos. We just have a list of what needs to be melted and cast for the week. The noise of the machinery is something you just get used to after the first few days. We often have people coming in to check on their orders or delivery drivers looking for directions. The office is just a small room off to the side where we keep the ledger and the phone. Most of the time, we’re out on the floor with the rest of the guys.
