Anu Brass is based out of Plot No. 655-b in Phase-2 of the Gidc. We deal almost exclusively with brass parts, which means the whole shop has a bit of a golden tint when the afternoon light hits the metal shavings on the floor. It is a lot of lathe work and precision cutting every day. We are not a huge operation, just a few of us working the machines from morning until evening. The noise is something you get used to after your first week on the job. We make all sorts of small components—nuts, bolts, and various fittings that go into much bigger machines. It is detail-oriented stuff. Sometimes a piece is off by a tiny bit, and we have to start the whole batch over, which is frustrating but just part of the job. We do not have a website or any of those modern gadgets; most of our business comes from people just knowing we are here in the estate. The tea break is the highlight of the afternoon when we can finally turn the machines off for twenty minutes of quiet. Gidc is a tough place to work sometimes because it is always busy and cramped, but we have made our small space work for us. We keep the scrap metal in bins out back and try to keep the workbench somewhat clear for the next task. It is not a fancy life, but it is a good living for us.
