Ambika Brass Products

You can find us at No. 666 in Phase 2 of Gidc Dared. Ambika Brass Products is basically a workshop. There's a lot of metal around. It gets quite dusty because of the grinding and polishing we do. We've got different machines for the brass work. Some are old, but they still run fine. We spend a lot of time making sure the dimensions are right. It’s not a quiet job. There’s a lot of clanging and banging throughout the day. The floor is usually covered in small metal shavings. We sweep up every evening, but by the next morning, it’s back to how it was. Dared is a busy industrial area, so there’s always trucks moving around. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. If someone wants to talk, they just walk into the shed. Most of our tools have been with us for a long time. They feel right in the hand. We handle everything from the raw pieces to the finished bits. It’s hard on the back sometimes. Standing all day near the lathes takes a toll. But we've got a routine down. We know which machine needs a bit of oil and which one works best for certain shapes. It’s just us doing the daily grind. We keep some cold water in the corner for when the heat gets to be too much. It gets very hot near the machines.
