Khan General Store

Khan General Store is at the Main Chowk in Qamarwari, right near the petrol pump. Being at the chowk means there is always a lot of noise from the traffic and people shouting. It’s a very central part of Srinagar. We have been running this store for quite some time now. We sell basic groceries, some stationery, and household items. The shop is quite narrow, so we have to be careful how we stack the boxes. In the winter, it gets very cold here, so we usually have a small heater behind the counter and we wear our heavy pherans. The tea is always brewing in a thermos. People stop by on their way to work or when they are headed home in the evening. Since the petrol pump is right there, we get a lot of people who are just passing through. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy. Most people just know us as the shop at the corner of the chowk. The address is 190012. We keep things simple and don't try to be anything we are not. It's just about having the right things in stock when someone needs them. Sometimes we run out of milk early in the morning because everyone wants it at the same time. We try to keep up, but it’s just a small family business. It’s a busy life, but we are used to it by now.
