This branch is tucked away at 171 Upper Laxmi Nagar in the Sarwal area. It's not the easiest place to find if you aren't from around here, but the locals know the way. Most days start with a bit of a struggle with the front door lock, it sticks sometimes when the weather changes. Inside, it’s mostly just us and the machines. We spend a lot of time looking at screens and filing folders into the metal cabinets against the back wall. The floor is that old speckled tile that never looks quite clean even after it’s been mopped in the morning. People come in from Laxmi Nagar with all sorts of things to do, and we just handle them one by one. It can get a bit loud when three or four people are talking at once in such a small space. We don’t have any of those fancy coffee machines you see in movies, just a water cooler in the corner that glugs every now and then. Sometimes the power goes out for a few minutes and everything goes quiet, which is actually kind of nice for a change. Then the generator kicks in and it’s back to work. We’ve been here a while now, so we know which neighbors like to complain about the heat and who is going to bring in a handful of crumpled notes to deposit. It’s a steady kind of life that keeps us occupied until the shutters go down at the end of the shift.
