Himalyan Handloom

The shop is right here on Exchange Road, just across from where the CTO and BSNL office is. It's a busy part of the street and people are always walking by. We started Himalyan Handloom because we know people around here need good, thick woolens. If you walk inside, you'll see stacks of blankets and shawls reaching up to the ceiling. It’s not very organized, but we know where everything is kept. The weavers send us their stuff from the hills and it usually smells a bit like raw wool when it first arrives. I spend a lot of my day just unfolding things for people to look at and then folding them back up again. It gets dusty, but that's just part of it. The floor is old wood and it creaks when you walk near the back. Sometimes the tea guy from down the street comes by and we sit for a minute. We don't have any fancy lights or big signs, just the name over the door. People know us for being here. It’s a simple life selling these hand-woven things. Sometimes the colors of the thread are a bit different from what we expected, but that's how hand-made stuff goes. We just stay open until the sun goes down and then lock up. It’s a quiet place mostly, unless the traffic outside gets too loud near the BSNL building and the Exchange Road crossing.
