Deepika Jamwal

I am Deepika Jamwal and I run my business out of 75 Patel Bazar in Jammu. If you’ve ever been to this part of Jammu and Kashmir, you know how crowded and lively Patel Bazar can get. My shop is right in the middle of all that action. It’s an old building, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it has character. I’ve been here for a few years now, and I’ve gotten to know the other shopkeepers pretty well. We all look out for each other. My day usually starts with opening up the shutters and dusting off the counters. I don’t have a big marketing plan or a fancy website. Most of my customers come in because they were walking by or a friend told them about me. I do my own accounting and I even sweep the floor myself most days. It’s a one-woman show for the most part. Sometimes my cousins come by to help out when things get really hectic, especially during the festival season. I don't like using big words to describe what I do. It’s just a local business in a busy market. I try to be fair with my prices and honest with the people who walk through my door. That is really all there is to it. It’s a small life, but it’s a good one that keeps me busy enough.
