We have been running Bhat Spices here in Ward No-31 for quite a few years now. Janipur Colony is a busy place, especially in the mornings when everyone is heading out. Our shop is located right near the Trimurti Mandir, so we hear the temple bells ringing all through the day. It’s a sound we’ve gotten used to, and it helps us keep track of the time. The shop isn't anything fancy, just a simple room with shelves piled high with different bags of spices. Sometimes the door sticks a bit when it rains, and we have to give it a good kick to open it. My brother and I take turns sitting at the counter. We spend most of our time weighing out powders or whole cloves for the ladies who live nearby. It gets a bit dusty with all the turmeric and chili in the air, but that is just how it is. People know us here, and they stop by to chat even if they don’t need to buy anything that day. We try to keep things organized, but sometimes the boxes get a bit mixed up in the back room. It’s just how a local shop works. We aren't trying to be some big supermarket. We just want to provide what the neighborhood needs for their daily cooking. It’s a quiet life mostly, except for the festival days when the colony gets really crowded. We usually have to stay open later then, but it's good to see all the people visiting the temple.
