Baba Hedri Charitable Foundation

Our foundation, Baba Hedri Charitable Foundation, is run by Shabir Ahmad Haji. We have roots in Anantnag near the old Iddgah and Lal Chowk, but we also operate out of Badyar Balla in Srinagar. It’s a bit of a mix, but we try to cover both areas. Dealing with two different spots keeps us on our toes. Most of our days are spent traveling back and forth or answering calls from people who need a hand. We aren’t a corporate entity. We’re more of a family-run thing that grew over time. People know Shabir and know he’s a man of his word. That’s how we get things done—just by talking to people and seeing who needs what. Whether it’s helping a student get books or helping a family through a tough month, we just step in. We don’t have a lot of rules or red tape. If it’s a good cause and we have the funds, we do it. It’s as simple as that. The 190001 area is where a lot of our work happens lately. It’s a tight-knit community and we like it that way. You don’t need a fancy mission statement to know that helping your neighbor is the right thing to do. We just keep our heads down and do the work day by day. Sometimes the traffic between Anantnag and Srinagar is a headache, but we manage to get where we need to be. It’s just how it goes for us. We just want to be helpful where it counts.
