If you’re coming down Kajraily Road, you can usually hear the bells from the Badi Durga Mandir before you see our gate. We are located right there in Village Amarpur. It’s a rural area, so things move a bit slower than in the big towns, which is fine by us. The trading business means we see a lot of different people coming through with their goods throughout the week. We spend a lot of time in the yard, checking the weight of things and making sure the trucks are loaded correctly. It gets very dusty, especially when the wind picks up across the open fields nearby. We have a small room where we keep the records, and there’s usually a pot of tea going somewhere for anyone who stops by. It’s not a polished operation, just a lot of hard work and staying on our feet most of the day. The temple nearby brings a lot of people to the area on festival days, and then the road gets really crowded with pilgrims. On those days, we usually just watch the crowds go by while we handle our usual tasks at the desk. We have been in Amarpur for a long time, and we know the local rhythms of the planting and harvest seasons well. It’s about being there when the farmers need to move their stuff. We don’t use any complicated systems, just some old-fashioned record books and a bit of patience for when the trucks are late.
