Triputi Foods

We are located on Neheru Road in the Khalpara area. This is part of the Darjeeling district, though it's down in the busier plains area rather than up in the mountains. Triputi Foods is where we handle a lot of different food products for the local market. The warehouse is usually full of sacks of grains or boxes of snacks piled up against the walls. It smells like a mix of spices and dry flour most days, which is a scent I've grown very used to. We have a few guys who help with the heavy lifting because the bags are quite heavy and my back isn't what it used to be. The weather here can be quite hot, unlike the hills further up, so we have to keep the floor swept and as dry as possible. We’ve been here for a good amount of time and most of the local traders know us by name. We don't have a website or any fancy advertisements. People just call us on the phone or show up at the door when they need to pick up an order. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the narrow parts of Neheru Road, and that causes a bit of a headache for everyone involved. But we just deal with it and move on. It’s a practical business for us. We focus on making sure the bags are weighed right and nothing gets spoiled by the damp. My family has always been into this kind of trade. It’s not glamorous work, but it pays the bills.
