Swapan Bricks

Swapan Bricks is a small business located in Latabari Village. We are over in the Kalchini Block, and our nearest post office is in Hamiltonganj. It is a pretty area, but we are mostly focused on the dirt and the bricks we make. This is a local operation where we spend our days at the kiln. We have been part of the Latabari community for quite some time. When people in the village or from the nearby tea gardens need to build something, they often come to us. We don't do much in the way of formal business meetings. Usually, someone just stops by the yard and we talk about how many bricks they need and when we can get them delivered. The rain in this district can be a real problem for us, as it slows down the whole drying process. We just have to work around it and do the best we can. The workers here are mostly local folks who have been doing this for years. It is physical work, and by the evening, everyone is ready to head home. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. Just a small shed where we keep the records and a large space for the bricks to sit. We try to keep a good supply ready so that we don't let anyone down when they are mid-construction. It is just us, making bricks in Kalchini.
