Up here in Kalimpong, things move a bit slower than down in the plains. Poudyal Education And Research Foundation is based at Kamal Parajuli’s house. We are right by the Shivalaya Mandir in Echhey. It is a nice spot, though the walk up can get your heart racing if you are not used to the hills. The view of the mountains is good when the clouds move out of the way. We do our work from a couple of rooms that stay quite cool even when it’s sunny outside. There are a lot of books and old papers piled up because that is what we do here. It is not like those big research centers you see in Delhi or Kolkata. It is just a small group of us looking into things and helping with local education matters. We get a lot of visitors who are just passing by the temple and get curious about the name on the gate. We tell them what we are doing and sometimes they stay for tea.
