Suresh Hendycraft

Suresh Hendycraft is out in Bhagli Sindhlana in Jalore. We are quite close to the Sarkari Hospital, which is the main landmark around here. It’s a quiet area for the most part, though it gets a bit busier around the hospital during the day. We work on handicrafts, doing things the old-fashioned way. It involves a lot of manual labor and sitting down with materials for hours at a time. Jalore can get very hot, so we usually start quite early in the morning to get the bulk of the work done before the sun is too high. Our setup is pretty simple. It's more of a workshop than anything else. We don't have a fancy website or a big sales team. We just make things and hope people like the quality of the work. It’s a lot of tradition passed down, really. You won't find any high-tech machinery here, just simple tools and our hands. Sometimes things take a bit longer than expected because that's just how handmade stuff goes. We get visitors occasionally who are heading to the hospital or just passing through the village. It’s a slow pace of life in Bhagli Sindhlana, but it suits the kind of work we do. We just focus on finishing one piece at a time and making sure it looks right before it goes out to whoever ordered it. It is just honest work.
