Sundha Mata General Store

At Sundha Mata General Store in Sadar Bazar, things are pretty much the same every day. I wake up, have my breakfast, and head over to open the locks. The street is already starting to get crowded by the time I get there. My shop is filled with all the daily necessities people run out of at home. I’ve got stacks of soap, rows of spices, and plenty of other household goods tucked into every corner. It’s a bit of a puzzle trying to fit new stock into such a small space. I often spend the afternoons re-arranging things just to make a little more room. The light inside isn’t the best, but I know my way around well enough. Sometimes the kids from the neighborhood come in with just a few coins for some candy, and I have to hunt through the jars to find what they want. It’s a lot of repetitive work, like dusting the jars and checking the dates on the milk packets. The local people are mostly friendly, though everyone is usually in a hurry to get somewhere else. When the monsoon comes, the rain splashes against the front step and I have to move everything back a few inches. It’s a simple existence, really. I just keep the shop running and make sure I have what people are looking for. There isn't much more to it than that, just staying busy and keeping the lights on. It fills up the day and keeps me going.
