We are set up in Shop Number 1 at the White House Complex. It’s right across from the Panchayat Samiti in Bhinmal, so it is a pretty easy spot to find if you are in Jalore. It’s a decent sized shop for our mercantile work. We do a lot of different things here, mostly focusing on getting goods ready for export. Some days we are just counting stock and making sure the inventory is right. Bhinmal is a smaller place compared to the big cities, so everyone kind of knows each other around the complex. We get the morning sun hitting the front of the shop, which is nice in the winter but pretty tough in May. We keep a lot of ledgers and books because that’s how we’ve always done it. It’s not all computerized yet. We deal with local suppliers and try to get things moved out on time. Sometimes the logistics are a bit tricky because of the distance from the main shipping ports. We just stay focused on the tasks for the day. If a truck is late, we wait. If a shipment is early, we rush. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting bags and boxes. The office chair squeaks a bit but it’s comfortable enough. We’ve been here in this shop for a while now and we like the neighborhood. We usually close up when the sun goes down and the street lights come on.
