Shiv Shakti Grani Marmo Pvt. Ltd. (Gang Saw Unit)

We are out here in the Riico Industrial Area, right next to the 3rd Phase. Our unit is on Bagara Road, and if you’ve been here, you know it’s a lot of stone and dust. Shiv Shakti Grani Marmo is essentially a gang saw unit, which means it’s loud and there is always water and stone slurry around. We cut big blocks of granite and marble into slabs. It’s heavy work and the machines are huge, so they take up almost the whole space. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning; we spend most of the time on the floor monitoring the blades. The sun hits this area pretty hard, so the afternoons are usually quite hot. We’ve got a group of workers who have been doing this for years, and they know the sound of the saws better than anything. Every block of stone is different, so you have to watch them closely so they don't crack. It’s not the kind of job where you stay clean. By the end of the shift, everyone is covered in a bit of stone dust. We just focus on getting the slabs cut straight and moved out to the yard. The Riico area is always busy with tractors and trucks, so there’s a lot of movement around our gate throughout the day. It’s a tough environment but there’s a certain rhythm to it that we all understand. We usually wrap things up as the sun starts to go down over the industrial estate and the trucks start heading back to their depots for the night.
