Baba Bricks

Our yard is at Plot No. 8 in Baunsani. We are quite close to the picnic spot and the Raivania post office. It’s actually a nice area, though our work is a bit noisier than the surroundings. Baba Bricks is just a local business. We have a few kilns that we keep going through the dry season. The workers live nearby, and we’ve all been working together for a long time. We don't use any fancy technology here. It’s mostly hand-molded stuff that gets fired in the traditional way. It takes time and patience to get it right. You can't rush the fire. Sometimes the smoke gets thick, but the wind usually carries it away toward the fields. We don't do any big promotions or anything. People just know we are here by the picnic spot. We have a dog that guards the gate at night, though he’s mostly just looking for scraps. During the day, it’s a lot of tractors and manual labor. We try to keep a good supply ready for when the local builders come by. It gets tiring when the heat is high in the summer, but we take turns in the shade. It’s just a plain, honest way to earn a living. We focus on the work and don't worry about much else. That is how we have always done it.
