Singh Harpaljit Architect

Harpaljit Singh runs this small architectural setup right here in Mohalla Gazipur. It’s a quiet spot near the post office. We spend most of our time looking at blueprints or driving out to sites around Adampur Doaba. It isn't a fancy office with glass walls, just a desk covered in papers and some old rulers. People usually stop by when they have a plot of land and don't know where to start. We draw up the basics, figure out where the walls go, and try to make sense of the local building rules. Jalandhar is growing fast, so there is always someone asking about a new house or a small shop extension. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook and other days it’s just us drinking tea and sketching. We’ve been at H.No.3313/12 for a while now. It’s easy to find if you know the neighborhood. We don't do big flashy presentations. It’s more about sitting down with a pencil and seeing what fits on the land. Sometimes the ideas change halfway through, and that’s fine. We just handle the technical side of things so the masons have something to follow. It’s honest work, keeping us busy from morning till evening. If you walk past the mohalla, you’ll probably see the lights on late. We just keep at it, one drawing at a time.
